Levy faces transfer fight, Tottenham star to discuss exit with potential new teammates

Daniel Levy is bracing himself for a busy summer at Tottenham, with decisions to be made on a number of things, including Ange Postecoglou.

There will also be players leaving and new transfers being made after they secured a spot in the Champions League group stages.

This happened after Spurs beat Manchester United in the Europa League final.

Cristian Romero to discuss exit with Rodrigo De Paul, Angel Correa and co. amid Atletico links

According to AS, page 17, 29 May, Cristian Romero could be parting ways with the North London outfit this summer.

Atletico Madrid are keen on securing the Argentine’s services but are unwilling to pay what Tottenham want for him.

It’s understood that Spurs are looking for £58.6million to sell the 27-year-old.

Romero has been a key player for Spurs this season

Levy has his arguments for retaining Romero and will try to convince him to stay and snub interest from the Madrid outfit.

Qualifying for the Champions League certainly strengthens the chairman’s hands and he’s already a tough negotiator.

Romero himself will be meeting Rodrigo De Paul, Angel Correa, Giuliano Simeone, Julian Alvarez and Nahuel Molina, all Argentina players who could be his teammates at Atletico Madrid.

Tottenham exit may seem tempting for Romero this summer

Romero may be tempted by a move to Atletico Madrid due to their strong Argentine contingent, offering a familiar cultural and tactical environment.

Atletico’s competitive edge in La Liga, where they consistently challenge for the title, contrasts sharply with Tottenham’s dismal 17th-place finish in the 2024/25 Premier League season.

Romero, a World Cup winner, has tasted success with Spurs’ 2024 Europa League triumph, but the club’s lack of progress and failure to build a title-contending squad could sway him.

Atletico’s robust defence under Diego Simeone, coupled with their higher likelihood of silverware, aligns with Romero’s ambitions.

Without assurances from Spurs’ hierarchy, possibly including new signings, to create a competitive squad, Romero may see Atletico as a better platform to achieve domestic and European glory, leveraging his prime years.
