Jonathan David ‘move to Premier League guaranteed’ as Tottenham update drops

Tottenham could look to strengthen their attack this summer, but their budget may be limited.

Tottenham could be set for a difficult summer transfer window with the prospect of no European football and a limited budget, and strengthening the squad will not be easy.

Spurs need more attacking firepower as it stands, and with striker Richarlison potentially set to leave, any quality additions would be welcomed.

Lille attacker and long-time target Jonathan David will be available on a free transfer, and the Lilywhites may have just been handed a boost in the pursuit of his signature.

Spurs target David set for Premier League move

With David set to move for free, a lot of clubs across Europe have registered their interest in him, but he now appears destined for the Premier League.

Fichajes (29 April) have now reported that David is “practically guaranteed” to move to England in the summer, with Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle, Tottenham and West Ham all in the running for his signature.

The lack of a transfer fee involved in his signing has made the 25-year-old a very attractive target, and he has been one of Ligue 1’s most reliable goal scorers in recent years.

The Canada international may pick his next club based on several different factors, but he could be perfect for Spurs if he can be convinced to join.

David can replace Richarlison at Tottenham

Richarlison has been linked with a move back to Everton after an incredibly underwhelming three years at Spurs, and the Brazil striker would need replacing.

Tottenham could, in theory, make a profit by selling Richarlison, and recruit David for free as a younger replacement and an upgrade.

David has scored 25 goals and provided 11 assists in 46 games this season, and would offer a speedy outlet upfront and a different profile to Dominic Solanke.

The problem Spurs face, is that clubs higher up the Premier League table may move for David and beat them to his signature.

However, if Tottenham win the Europa League and thereby qualify for the Champions League, they may stand a much better chance of signing him.
