Jan Paul van Hecke timeline emerges at Tottenham as quick business required
Tottenham may have a deadline to try and sign Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton.
The Lilywhites have reportedly already agreed personal terms with the Dutch defender about a move to North London.
The AMEX Stadium club have supposedly rejected two bids from Roberto De Zerbi's side as they try to shore up their backline.
The 26-year-old is expected to move for a figure beyond the £50million mark, but it may have to wait until after the World Cup.
The defender is a part of the Netherlands squad for that tournament and is expected to feature heavily after starting both warm-up games.
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium outfit do not want to wait to seal his signature.
What is the latest on Jan Paul van Hecke and Tottenham?
John Wenham believes that Spurs will try and seal the deal before the Netherlands start their World Cup campaign.
Ronald Koeman’s charges face Japan in their opening game of the tournament on 14 June, so that leaves a very tight amount of time.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Spurs expert Wenham said: “It seems likely that Tottenham want this deal wrapped up before the Netherlands' World Cup campaign commences.
"That is on Sunday, so it would have to be a very quick sort of turn of business today or Saturday, to get that deal done.
“It is clear from the media briefings that this is somebody that Roberto De Zerbi desperately wants, and feels can push Tottenham on to the next level.
“Tottenham should be doing absolutely everything they can to get that deal done and make progress there.”
Why Tottenham are rushing to sign Van Hecke
If it was the case, it makes sense as Van Hecke’s value will only increase with good performances at the tournament.
If he was to shine in the United States, Mexico and Canada, it could push the price that the Seagulls are demanding beyond what the Lilywhites want to pay.
It could also bring other teams in the fold, although, the player apparently only wants Spurs, but that stance might change if other clubs were to enter the fray and try to sign the 12-cap international.
There could still be many twists and turns as De Zerbi tries to wrap up another deal.
