How Folarin Balogun feels about joining Tottenham as transfer 'priority' revealed

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Monaco striker Folarin Balogun.

Roberto De Zerbi has been backed considerably in the transfer market this summer.

Tottenham have so far signed six new players, and there is hope that a few more will join before the window shuts.

A striker could be on De Zerbi's wishlist before the deadline, as Richarlison continues to be heavily linked with a move away.

Dominic Solanke has also picked up an ankle injury in pre-season, with the jury remaining out on him being the man to lead the Spurs line.

So, with the addition of a new centre-forward sure to be welcomed by supporters, Tottenham could be closing in on one.

Where do Tottenham stand in Folarin Balogun negotiations?

One of the 2026 World Cup's headline-grabbing stars, for various reasons, Balogun's transfer stock has never been higher.

Fresh off the back of a 19-goal season with Monaco in 2025-26, the 25-year-old USA international is playing the best football of his career.

As a result, a move to the Premier League could be on the cards for him this summer.

Foot Mercato transfer reporter Santi Aouna claims via X that Balogun has greenlit a move to Tottenham.

Aouna's post claims that Balogun is viewed as Tottenham's "priority" transfer in what remains of the window.

However, no official bid is claimed to have been made yet, but talks are progressing between the two parties.

There would be plenty of reason for Tottenham fans to get excited about Balogun's potential signing, but there is a big Elephant in the room.

Why might some Tottenham fans not instantly warm to Balogun?

There are few rivalries in English football fuelled by more hatred than Arsenal and Tottenham.

Players who cross the divide forever burn a bridge from the side they came from, and the pressure to succeed is increased tenfold.

Balogun, whilst not directly crossing the North London divide, has footballing roots that stem from Arsenal.

He joined the Gunners' academy aged eight, and would eventually sign a professional contract at the Emirates in February 2019.

Balogun only made 10 competitive appearances for Arsenal though, but was still their player as recently as 2023 before joining Monaco.

Naturally then, some Tottenham fans may not love the idea of having a long-time Arsenal player in their ranks.

But if this can be looked past, then the American has the potential to be a quality addition to De Zerbi's forward line.
