Fabrizio Romano in Mathys Tel transfer reveal amid Tottenham development

Tottenham signed Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich in the winter but he has struggled for the most part.

The Lilywhites beat the likes of Manchester United to the Frenchman’s signature but haven’t reaped the rewards of securing the teenager.

Under Ange Postecoglou, the forward has netted just one goal while generally struggling for minutes since moving to North London.

Looking ahead to the summer, Fabrizio Romano has revealed how likely Spurs are to make a deal for the 19-year-old permanent.

Romano reveals Tottenham happiness with Tel

For a youngster coming in from the Bundesliga giants, there was plenty of expectation surrounding the versatile attacker in N17.

It is fair to say that the former Rennes youngster has lived up to that and has arguably been underwhelming when given the chance to feature.

Despite this lack of impact, his leadership was on show against Fulham as Tel was caught in a heated exchange with Spurs fans at Craven Cottage.

This summed up the Frenchman’s grit and desire for the Lilywhites which could result in an extended stay in the Premier League.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed to GIVEMESPORT (18 March) that the North London outfit are pleased with the loanee who looks set to stay after his initial deal ends.

He said: “For Mathys Tel, they’re very happy with the boy, with the attitude, with the potential they see in this boy, and that’s why they were fighting for weeks to sign him in January.

“At the moment, their indication remains, as Postecoglou always says, that they trust him also for the future. Then let’s see what happens.”

Tel could sign permanently for Tottenham

There is no lack of potential with the 19-year-old but that hasn’t truly reflected well in the Premier League.

Tel has plenty of pace and power but hasn’t found a role which necessarily suited him in Postecoglou’s system in N17.

This has seen Dominic Solanke start ahead of him as a number nine which is fair given his output and price tag after signing from Bournemouth.

Then in the wing positions, the likes of Wilson Odobert and Son Heung-min have been selected ahead of the Frenchman, summing up his place in the squad.

If he is to sign permanently, it will be interesting to see if his place in the squad changes or if he continues to be a bit part player.
