Dominic Solanke faces being 'replaced in January' by Tottenham

Dominic Solanke could leave Tottenham when the transfer market reopens.

That is the verdict from Spurs expert John Wenham, who could see Roberto De Zerbi looking for a new option.

Solanke has featured seven times with just one goal so far this season, and has not proven that he can be a reliable option for the Italian manager.

That sums up his career in North London so far, with 23 goals and eight assists in 72 matches.

He was expected to be the star man, but he has suffered with injuries issues and loss of form in his time with the N17 outfit.

Now, the writing could be on the wall for the five-time England international.

The Lilywhite Rose owner can see Solanke being allowed to leave in January after what he has seen so far this season.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: "I've been a big advocate of Solanke's.

"I'm losing patience with him now, because he isn't contributing anything, it's like starting with a player less with him on the pitch at the moment.

"He needs to get himself back into form, because he is a good player. I've seen him score big goals against the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Man United, Man City in a Tottenham shirt, and at the moment he looks totally devoid of confidence.

"Solanke doesn't look anything like the player we signed when he first came to Tottenham, I was really impressed with him, but now he looks weak, he's not winning 50-50s, he's not holding the ball up, he's not getting his shots away.

"He needs these three weeks to regroup, focus on his football, be at training, be present, be doing the right things to give himself the best opportunity to be the Dominic Solanke that we need him to be, because if he isn't, I can see him being replaced in January."

If supporters like Wenham are starting to lose patience with the attacker, imagine how De Zerbi feels privately.

Why Tottenham may struggle to sell Solanke

Solanke may be rescued by the fact that he has such a long contract with the Lilywhites.

His deal runs until 2030, which means that Spurs would not be willing to lose him on the cheap.

The former Bournemouth ace's lack of fitness and more importantly, his goal record in recent seasons, means that there is unlikely to be many suitors chasing his services.

It may not be for a want of trying, but De Zerbi may not be able to get rid of him easily, if he deems that to be the right course of action.
