Dejan Kulusevski ‘could leave Tottenham’ amid new contract news

Dejan Kulusevski could be set to leave Tottenham in the summer amid the ongoing uncertainty in North London.

The Sweden star has been a rare positive in a dismal season for Spurs, notching seven goals and four assists in 28 Premier League appearances.

That form has led to interest from the likes of Manchester City and Napoli and the Lilywhites are set to open contract talks with the 24-year-old.

Kulusevski concerns emerge amid contract talks

Tottenham are looking to tie down Kulusevski to fresh terms to ward off the interest in his services and to reward him for his increased importance.

A report from Give Me Sport (18 April) claims that the Swedish international is waiting for clarity on the future of Ange Postecoglou and the N17 outfit’s transfer plans before committing his future beyond his current £110,000-a-week deal, which still has three years left to run.

It states that the Lilywhites star could be convinced to sign a new contract despite those doubts but wants to be assured that the team is going in the right direction before putting pen to paper.

The report also claims that winning the Europa League would help persuade the player to stay put.

Tottenham need to sort Kulusevski contract

While he does have three years remaining on his current deal, the young star could force his way out if his ambitions are not met.

Spurs sit 15th in the league and have been eliminated from all domestic competitions, so European success in their only chance of silverware. It is therefore understandable that players are frustrated.

Spurs’ season has been dismal.

The North Londoners need to ensure that they give the player the reassurances that he wants, as he is far too important to lose right now, given his consistent level of performance.

Spurs are not actively looking to sell one of their star performers but if he agitates for a move, it will not be a good look for Daniel Levy, who is already under significant pressure with the fanbase.

Convincing Kulusevski to stay will go a long way to fixing that relationship which is very strained at the moment.
