Aston Villa approach to sign defender Tottenham sold for £13m – Fabrizio Romano

Aston Villa have entered talks to sign former Tottenham defender Juan Foyth from Villarreal, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer specialist reported on 26 January that the Argentina international is one of the main targets for Unai Emery in the winter window.

An initial proposal has already been sent by the Villans to the Yellow Submarine who signed the 27-year-old from Spurs for £13.6m [Marca].

Aston Villa make approach for former Tottenham defender Juan Foyth

The defender made just 32 appearances for the Lilywhites between 2017 and 2020 but always felt like he had a mistake in him.

That was cut out by Emery in La Liga who utilised the Argentine at right back as the La Liga outfit made it to the semi-final of the Champions League in 2022.

With that being said, it isn’t much of a surprise that the defender has been linked with a move to reunite with his former manager at Villa Park in January.

It would be interesting to see how Foyth would perform if he returned to England and whether or not Spurs have some sort of sell-on fee with Villarreal, which would be a plus.
