Alfie Dorrington loan touted as Tottenham teammate also tipped with January exit - 'It's frustrating'

Tottenham Hotspur missed a trick by not loaning out Alfie Dorrington and Tyrese Hall in the summer.

That is the view of Spurs expert John Wenham, who was talking exclusively to Tottenham News.

Dorrington has previously spent a couple of spells in Scotland with Aberdeen, as well as with Salford City last season.

The 21-year-old has also played once for Tottenham in the Premier League, with that solitary appearance coming in December 2024.

Hall, meanwhile, has yet to play at first-team level for Spurs, though he does have senior experience on loan with Notts County.

Both youngsters will now likely play for the Under-21s until January, at which point Wenham would like to see them head out on loan again.

What is latest on Alfie Dorrington and Tyrese Hall?

In an ideal world, the pair would already be part of Roberto De Zerbi's plans.

But it is hard for youngsters to break into teams that have the quality - on paper, at least - that Spurs posses.

De Zerbi's issues also mean he is less likely to turn to the youth right now.

There is a fear Dorrington and Hall could stagnate by only playing age-grade football.

Loan moves cannot be sealed to English Football League clubs until January due to the window being shut and the pair being aged 21.

"I expected more players to go out on loan in the summer," Wenham said.

"Hall's too good to be playing at U-21 level. We saw that against Birmingham Under-21s recently, where he just walked through their defence, scored a goal and got an assist for another one.

"I was disappointed that we couldn't get those two, Hall and Dorrington, loan exits.

"I do wonder if they're going to just stay around with the first team until January, but for their own development, they have to go out on loan. It's frustrating they didn't [in the summer]."

What could be next for Dorrington and Hall?

Hall caught the eye on loan with Notts County, as did Dorrington with Salford in his most recent spell away.

If the pair are not going to be given a chance by De Zerbi, which they are clearly not, then it makes no sense for them to be waiting around at Hotspur Way.

As Wenham says, a loan exit has to be on the cards for both at the earliest possibility, which is 1 January.

Hopefully they can flourish when given regular football at a relatively high level, likely in League Two.

If they make the most of their opportunities, it may well be they are in the first-team picture come this time next year.
