Yoane Wissa pushing for Brentford exit as negotiations underway after Tottenham news
Tottenham target Yoane Wissa looks set to leave Brentford this summer.
Wissa was an integral part of Thomas Frank’s Brentford side that consistently punched above their weight as a club of their stature in the Premier League.
The 28-year-old is coming off the back of his most prolific season in the English top flight, naturally attracting the interest of bigger clubs like Spurs, with all due respect to Brentford.
- Wissa scored 19 Premier League goals in 35 appearances last season
However, Spurs may have just been dealt a major blow when it comes to the probability that Wissa makes the move to North London.

Wissa ‘pushing to join’ Newcastle United
Dominic Solanke did not set the world alight during his first campaign in N17, meaning Spurs adding a new striker to their ranks would appear to be a sensible move.
Wissa appears to be a shrewd signing on paper, with the forward boasting multiple years of Premier League experience as well as prior experience of playing under Frank.
However, this move now looks extremely unlikely, with reports from Fabrizio Romano on X (8 August) claiming that Wissa is now pushing to join Newcastle United.
Negotiations are said to be underway between the two clubs, with the Magpies being the forward’s desired destination.
Nicolas Jackson has recently emerged as a new potential target to lead the line for Tottenham, but the fact that he plays for Chelsea, coupled with his over-inflated price tag and poor finishing abilities, make this move an unattractive one for the Spurs’ faithful.
Missing out on Wissa to a direct rival is a major blow
Given that Spurs and Newcastle are likely to occupy similar positions in the Premier League table next season, losing out on Wissa could cost Frank and Co. dearly.
Wissa has proven to be a striker who can consistently outperform his expected goals and be extremely versatile tactically, thriving as a loan striker or as part of a front two.
Yoanne Wissa | Expected goals | Actual goals |
2022/23 | 5.63 | 7 |
2023/24 | 10.57 | 12 |
2024/25 | 18.59 | 19 |
With Solanke’s injury woes, Daniel Levy must urgently recruit a new number nine to add more firepower to Frank’s squad ahead of his first season in charge at Spurs.
