‘Xavi Simons wants Tottenham transfer’ as Gibbs-White saga explodes

Tottenham are growing frustrated in their pursuit of Nottingham Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White.

The attacking midfielder emerged as a prime target for Thomas Frank’s side after Spurs triggered his £60million release clause.

However, Forest reported Tottenham to the Premier League for allegedly making an illegal approach for the 26-year-old.

Now, attention has turned to RB Leipzig man Xavi Simons, who could be an alternative to the England international.

Simons makes Tottenham preference amid transfer links

It appears that the North London club are not waiting around for Gibbs-White, with Leipzig willing to sell Simons for a reported £52million plus.

Understandably, Spurs cannot wait around forever for Gibbs-White, with the situation likely to drag on for some time.

That means that Tottenham must press on with a contingency plan if they are to land an attacking midfielder.

Simons has emerged as a potential target and seems to be available for around the same price as Gibbs-White, if not cheaper.

Last season, the 22-year-old made 25 Bundesliga appearances, notching 17 goal contributions.

Now, Simons wants to leave Germany for England, where clubs are able to offer higher salaries, according to BILD (18 July).

Furthermore, he hopes to attract the interest of Tottenham and Man City, although an offer is yet to be made.

The Dutch international has two years remaining on his contract with the German side.

Simons a credible alternative to Gibbs-White

While Gibbs-White is Tottenham’s priority signing, the North London club cannot wait forever for the Englishman.

With that in mind, Simons is an appealing alternative for the Lilywhites in case they cannot land the Forest man.

Gibbs-White would be a better option, given his leadership capabilities and Premier League experience, but Simons has future potential.

At 22, the Dutch international has plenty of time to develop into a top player, and he has already shown encouraging signs of achieving that.

His statistics are admirable, and it seems that he has a desire to play at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Gibbs-White and Spurs are embroiled in the saga of the summer, and all eyes will be on what follows
