Unseen Eberechi Eze footage emerges that could derail Tottenham signing – ‘I love Arsenal’

Tottenham are pursuing a statement move for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, but there may now be a new obstacle in any deal.

Arsenal are also reportedly keen on Eze, but Tottenham appear to have pulled ahead in the race to sign the attacking midfielder.

Eze started as Crystal Palace drew 0-0 with Chelsea, and had a goal controversially ruled out after an outstanding direct free kick.

Tottenham want Eze following an injury to James Maddison, but new footage has emerged which may put some fans off signing him.

Eze explains Arsenal support in unseen clip

Eze being a fan of North London rivals Arsenal is common knowledge, and the midfielder was released from their academy during his youth career.

However, new footage has emerged of Eze explaining why he loves Arsenal in 2018, and this does not bode well for a potential move to Tottenham.

“I just supported them from when I was young, I played with them when I was younger, and they’re my favourite team,” Eze told journalist Alessandro Morolli-Schiavone in November 2018.

When asked who would win the Premier League, Eze responded with Arsenal, who would go on to finish below Spurs in fifth that season.

“When I was younger, Thierry Henry – I used to love Thierry Henry, and that’s why I decided to sign there when I was younger. To play for a club that you support, that’s what I wanted to do.

“Growing up with them, playing with them, I’ve grown a love for the team.”

Eze was then asked if he would ever rule out playing for Tottenham as an Arsenal fan, and he chuckled before responding.

“I don’t know. I don’t know about any of this. I don’t know. Maybe.”

Other Arsenal fans have played for Tottenham

While these quotes have certainly not aged well, Eze would not be the first Arsenal fan to play for Tottenham, and their support has ultimately proved irrelevant when performing as professionals.

Maddison has had to delete posts on X in the past, in which he praised Jack Wilshere and slandered Gareth Bale.

Harry Kane came through the Arsenal academy and was released as a youngster, like Eze, and he became a thorn in their side in countless North London derbies.

Matt Doherty also poked fun as he deleted posts on X as part of his signing announcement video, having previously expressed support for Arsenal.

Eze’s previous comments therefore may not be a problem, but Spurs will have to close this deal soon in case Arsenal also make an offer for him.
