Tottenham will rip up ‘outstanding’ star’s contract on transfer deadline day as exit edges closer
Tottenham could now be about to cut ties with one of their stars amid a huge development on deadline day.
The Lilywhites are keen to add to their squad before the 7pm BST cut-off on Monday, and their activity in the market could spell the end for some of the current members of the squad.
Spurs are chasing Ademola Lookman’s signature in the final hours of the window, as they are keen to secure another attacking addition after Xavi Simons’ arrival.
Daniel Levy has backed Thomas Frank with several expensive new signings this summer, but that looks likely to force some players out of the door as a result.

Bryan Gil to tear up Spurs contract to join Girona
Bryan Gil has been linked with a Spurs exit since the start of the summer, as both parties look to bring an end to his poor spell in N17.
The Spanish winger joined the Lilywhites from Sevilla back in 2021, but has badly struggled to find form and consistency in the Premier League.
The 24-year-old spent last season back on loan in La Liga with Girona, and he is now pushing to terminate his Spurs contract in order to move back to the Catalonian outfit, according to journalist Nil Sola via his X account.
Gil “only wants to play” at Girona, and their boss Michel views him as an important player in their plans this season.
The Spanish side are thought to be making progress in their bid to land the attacker, but it remains to be seen whether their efforts will be enough to beat the deadline.
Tottenham should cut their losses with Bryan Gil
Gil’s time at Tottenham simply hasn’t worked out, but there is light at the end of the tunnel for both parties in the near future.
He was once branded as “outstanding” by then-Premier League TV pundit Clinton Morrison (as per Inside Futbol) after a display for Spurs back in 2023, but praise like that has been few and far between in recent years.
- Spurs paid £21.6million for Gil in the summer of 2021
- He has since made just 41 appearances for Tottenham
- Loan spells with Valencia, Sevilla and Girona have dotted between his time at Spurs
The wideman is out of contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the end of the season, and unless his situation undergoes a drastic change, he will surely not be offered a new deal.
With that in mind, it could make sense for Levy and Co. to grant Gil his wish to leave and cut their losses on his wages by agreeing to cancel his contract.
It is highly unlikely that he will be involved at any stage of the campaign, so Spurs have very little to lose from the situation.
