Tottenham want to sign Omar Marmoush after latest Man City transfer admission

Tottenham are reportedly in the hunt to sign Manchester City and Egypt forward Omar Marmoush this winter.

In less than two weeks’ time, Thomas Frank will be able to add to his squad for the second half of the season after an unwhelming start to his life at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Frank’s come under pressure at Spurs in recent weeks due to his side’s poor performances in the Premier League, which is why the Dane is now likely looking forward to the January transfer window, when he’ll be able to add to a squad that seems devoid of quality in several areas.

One of the major issues Tottenham have is a lack of a focal point in the attack, with the London club struggling to have a regular goalscoring since bidding farewell to Harry Kane and Son Heung-min in the last few years.

Antoine Semenyo key to Tottenham’s pursuit of Omar Marmoush

And that’s likely why Spurs are now said to be in pursuit of Manchester City striker Marmoush.

City insider The Real Tolmie’s Hairdoo reported via his X account on Friday that Tottenham have the Egypt international in their sights ahead of the transfer window re-opening on 1 January.

He added in another post that Man City’s CEO Ferran Soriano would potentially listen to bids for the 26-year-old if Pep Guardiola is able to bag a deal for Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, who is also linked with Spurs.

Marmoush has been massively out of the picture at the Etihad this season, playing just 15 times across all competitions and averaging around 25 minutes in each of those outings.

The former Frankfurt striker’s only goal this season came back in October, when he netted in a Carabao Cup victory over Swansea City.

Erling Haaland‘s sensational form has understandably kept Marmoush sidelined, but the striker, who is currently in Morocco with the Egypt squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, showcased what he’s capable of in the Premier League last season when he scored seven goals in 16 outings after arriving in January.

Man City paid £59million when they signed Marmoush from Frankfurt in January 2025.

He signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with the Citizens to fill the void left by Julian Alvarez after he left the Etihad to join Atletico Madrid.

Haaland struggled in spells last season as Liverpool won the Premier League title, and Marmoush ended up being a great back-up option for City when things with the Norwegian goal machine weren’t working out.

Looking back at when he signed for City, Marmoush has now revealed he was in a state of disbelief about the move when it came about.

“My father called me and told me ‘City are interested’ and I said ‘I’m ready, lets go, what’s stopping us?’,” Marmoush told Man City’s podcast this week.

“It was a crazy moment for me, just hearing City wanted me at that time. Also, I’ve been putting in the work for so many years.

“It was very surprising in the first moment, ‘okay City want me’, but at the same time I knew something was coming after these consistent performances.

“The year before [with Frankfurt] and the development the year after was incredible and it was unbelievable.”
