Tottenham want to change pre-agreed transfer terms with Bayern Munich

Tottenham have a big summer ahead of them as Daniel Levy tries to save the Lilywhites from plummeting further.

It has been a disastrous campaign for the North London outfit, who sit sixteenth in the Premier League table, having picked up 18 defeats on their way there.

The Europa League is the only saving grace for Spurs, with Bodo/Glimt the only side standing between them and the final of the competition.

Regardless of the outcome, though, there is pressure on Ange Postecoglou with suggestions that even a trophy would not be enough to save his future.

Tottenham make Mathys Tel choice

Uncertainty over the manager does not give Tottenham the strongest hand as they prepare to approach the summer transfer window.

There are plenty of decisions to be made, one of which, the future of loanee Mathys Tel, who joined from Bayern Munich during the winter transfer window.

Postecoglou was keen to bring the forward to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and was said to be a key part of what convinced the 19-year-old to complete the deal.

This throws even more uncertainty into proceedings when it comes to Tel’s future with Spurs having the option to make the loan a permanent deal for £47.5million in the summer window.

It has now been reported by The Times (25 April) that Tottenham are planning to secure his services on a permanent basis, but not at the originally agreed price.

The report states that Spurs are keen to go back to Bayern Munich and renegotiate the clause stating the amount they would be required to pay for the deal.

The option to buy clause is also said to depend on Tel’s own desire to stay put, which could well rest on success in the Europa League, which would, in turn, guarantee Champions League football.

Tottenham should not rush Tel choice

Tel has had a slow start to life at Tottenham, but in recent weeks he has upped his standards and shown he does have ability at the top end of the pitch.

Furthermore, given the forward is still just 19-years-old, if there is promise there, he is not a bad option to have as a young talent to continue developing.

That being said, Postecoglou was a key factor in bringing Tel to north London and if another manager did come in at the end of the campaign, he may not be fond of the youngster.

Given he hasn’t blown anyone away just yet, it seems incredibly risky to make him a permanent part of the squad without knowing who will be his boss, especially as a lack of game time is what pushed him from Bayern Munich in the first place.

If Tottenham are interested in making a move, renegotiating the clause definitely seems like a wise move, although the fact that this is being considered as an option, perhaps reflects that those at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium are not fully convinced by his potential.
