Tottenham transfers: Ange Postecoglou makes new panic admission

Ange Postecoglou says it’s “no secret” that Tottenham need new players in the January transfer window.

The Australian manager has revealed that Spurs are working hard to add reinforcements this month.

Postecoglou has admitted that the Lilywhites can’t panic and buy someone who won’t fit the team and is unsure if and when an addition will be made.

Speaking to the media [Alasdair Gold, 3 January], the 59-year-old head coach said: “It’s not a matter of pushing, but the club are working hard to get help for the playing group. It’s no secret we need to bolster numbers. January is not an easy month, we understand.

“At the same time, we want to make sure we do the best thing for us rather than panic and bring in people who aren’t going to be a suitable fit.

“I don’t know. Could be imminent, could not be imminent.”

Tottenham need to grant Ange Postecoglou January transfers

The North London outfit are clearly struggling due to a lack of depth in their squad this season.

Radu Dragusin and Archie Gray have been partnered at the back in recent matches due to several fitness issues in the team.

Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies have been on the sidelines for the last few weeks.

Tottenham have been unable to rely on the Argentine and Dutch centre-backs due to their constant problems, and they need to address that position.

Spurs’ recruitment team should prioritise the acquisition of a new centre-back in January, and failure to do so will be an indictment of Daniel Levy and Co.

The North London outfit’s chairman has failed with the recruitment policy over the years, and fans have clearly had enough of him.

Tottenham find themselves 11th in the Premier League table, and it’s likely that they’ll once again fail to get a top-four spot this season.

The Lilywhites have some crucial fixtures coming up, including the Carabao Cup semi-final, and Postecoglou needs to be given the necessary tools to end the 17-year trophy drought.
