Tottenham transfer ‘bombshell’ as direct talks take place for new attacker transfer
Tottenham are now in “direct talks” with the management of Mathys Tel, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Sky Germany journalist reported via his personal X account (29 January) that Spurs are now “very interested” in acquiring the services of the Bayern Munich attacker amid their recent injury problems.
Plettenberg did however add that a decision has not yet been made with the race still “open”.
“Tottenham are definitely very interested in Mathys Tel and are now in direct talks with Tel’s management,” he wrote.
“After Tel decided he wants to leave Bayern. No decision yet. Open race.”
Tottenham could do far worse than Mathys Tel
The 2024/25 season has been one to forget for Spurs fans with the club currently sitting 15th in the Premier League table.
Fans have now seemingly turned on Ange Postecoglou and Daniel Levy with neither of the duo giving the fanbase what they want.
Injuries have of course played a massive part in Spurs’ underperformance this season with a lot of their games often having patched together teams that have been held in place by the likes of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall.
Now that Dominic Solanke is injured for around six weeks and Richarlison is seemingly half the striker he used to be, it feels like an attacker is an essential bit of recruitment needed in North London.

Tel can play across the front three and the fact he’s still only 19 years old also plays in his favour.
Only time will tell if Postecoglou and Levy can pull a bombshell of this calibre off but if they can, it’ll go an awful long way towards Spurs making their way back up the table.
In other Tottenham news, a Premier League rival are “desperate” to stop Spurs from signing a highly-rated young attacker.
