Tottenham to rival RB Leipzig to sign ‘phenomenal’ Premier League ace
Tottenham will rival RB Leipzig in the race to sign Southampton starlet Tyler Dibling, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Sky Sports Germany journalist reported via X (21 January) that Spurs have emerged as the biggest competitors to the Bundesliga outfit’s bid for the 18-year-old after previously claiming the Lilywhites “are heavily involved” in the race.
Southampton have rejected all offers for Dibling thus far and are pushing to extend his contract beyond 2027 to thwart off interest across Europe.
However, Ange Postecoglou is desperate to bolster his squad in the winter transfer window after the 3-2 loss against Everton on Sunday (19 January) leaves Tottenham 15th in the Premier League table.
Tottenham are pushing to sign Tyler Dibling
Although Postecoglou needs players ready to make an immediate impact in North London, there is no reason why the Australian can’t also recruit with the future in mind.
Tottenham signed goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague to fill the void left by the injured Guglielmo Vicario, but the 21-year-old will undoubtedly challenge for the number one spot once the Italian returns.
The same can be said for Dibling, whom ex-Premier League midfielder Danny Murphy dubbed a “phenomenal young player” after breaking into the Saints’ first-team ranks this season (Daily Express, 5 December).
Dibling has featured 20 times for the Premier League strugglers this season and has continuously caught the eye at St Mary’s despite his side sitting at the bottom of the table with a single-digit points tally to match.
The England Under-21 international could be tempted to jump ship before it sinks with Southampton destined for an immediate Championship return and has the tools to stake a claim for a starting berth at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Whether RB Leipzig will continue to push hard for his signature remains to be seen, but among the Premier League sides also monitoring developments, Spurs have the advantage and must capitalise before losing out on another transfer target.
