Tottenham to have last laugh over Eberechi Eze after what Harry Redknapp’s been told by Palace insider
Tottenham were beaten to the signing of Eberechi Eze by bitter rivals Arsenal, but they may have had the last laugh.
Spurs were keen on Eze and had agreed a deal with Crystal Palace, but Arsenal swooped in at the last second to hijack the deal.
It is not the first time that Daniel Levy has failed to secure a key target for Tottenham, and he will now need to look elsewhere, as Spurs face a crisis in midfield with James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski absent with long-term injuries.
Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has now suggested that Palace may not actually miss Eze, despite the talented attacker winning them their first ever major trophy.

Harry Redknapp told Oliver Glasner will not miss Eberechi Eze
Crystal Palace have now lost one of their key players in Eze, but while he would have been a good addition for Tottenham, Redknapp believes that Palace may move on from him quite easily
Speaking to talkSPORT on 22 August, Redknapp revealed that someone close to Crystal Palace has told him that Oliver Glasner’s structured tactics will enable him to move on from Eze quickly.
Available Tottenham midfielders | Role |
Joao Palhinha | Defensive |
Rodrigo Bentancur | Central |
Yves Bissouma | Defensive |
Lucas Bergvall | Central |

“It’s a big blow for Crystal Palace, but someone did tell me in the week – I met someone very well connected at Palace, and they said they felt the manager wouldn’t lose any sleep over it, because he plays a very structured game,” Redknapp stated.
“Eze is a bit of a free spirit, he’s a fantastic talent, but [Glasner] likes to have a more structured team, so he feels that it’s not the end of the world for Palace.”
How Thomas Frank would have used Eberechi Eze
Thomas Frank’s desire to sign Eze was mainly motivated by the injury crisis he faced in midfield, but the Palace star would also have brought a lot of creativity to his team.
Both Frank and Glasner use fairly structured tactical systems, although the Tottenham manager is a bit more flexible than the Austrian.
Frank has shown that he is willing to use a back three or four, to get the best out of fast attackers such as Bryan Mbeumo, while Glasner has adopted a more rigid back three with a set shape.
Glasner may therefore replace Eze well with an attacking player who can slot straight into his system, but Frank may have given Eze more of a free role to roam around the pitch and express himself creatively.
If Palace boss Glasner is not that bothered about losing Eze, though, then Spurs fans shouldn’t be too downbeat either.
