Tottenham to ‘embarrass’ Premier League rivals as sources share transfer news

Tottenham want to make one of their Premier League rivals look silly by signing one particular striker in the summer transfer window.

Spurs have signed at least one forward in each of their last six transfer windows, with Richarlison arriving in the summer of 2022 and Mathys Tel joining on a loan-to-buy agreement in the recently concluded winter transfer window.

However, the search for Harry Kane’s replacement, which began a year before he joined Bayern Munich, is yet to bear fruit, although summer signing Dominic Solanke has bagged 11 goals and six assists from 29 appearances across all competitions.

With Ange Postegolou seemingly not pleased with his options up front, the North London giants are set to enter the market for another striker in the summer and could even spend big to acquire their desired target.

Spurs to trigger Matheus Cunha release clause

Tottenham are, therefore, ready to trigger the £62million release clause in Matheus Cunha’s Wolves contract, according to CaughtOffside.

The news outlet reported via their website on Saturday (22 February) that Spurs want to embarrass Wolves by snatching Cunha from them in the summer.

Postecoglou’s side, though, face competition from Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for the Brazil international, as per the outlet’s sources.

Arsenal are prioritising the signing of a new striker in the summer, with Cunha on their radar alongside Benjamin Sesko, while Aston Villa are showing increased interest in him following Jhon Duran’s move to Saudi Arabia in the winter.

Wolves to face Tottenham embarrassment

Wolves tied Cunha down to a new four-and-a-half-year deal earlier this month amid being linked with a move away from the Molineux Stadium during the winter transfer window.

Although the new contract came with a £62m release clause, the Wanderers would have hoped that would be enough to price potential suitors out of a transfer.

However, Tottenham want to embarrass their Premier League rivals by actually triggering the release clause just months after Cunha’s contract extension.

They just need to make sure they beat competition from other clubs.
