Tottenham submit £85m+ bid for Rodrygo as request made to Real Madrid
Tottenham could be set to smash their transfer record as they pursue a deal for Rodrygo.
Thomas Frank is desperate to add reinforcements to his front line this summer and will want swift progress, as recent injuries have highlighted the squad’s fragility.
Dominic Solanke was absent from both matches during Spurs’ pre-season tour in Asia, while James Maddison reinjured his knee against Newcastle on Sunday (3 August).
Having missed out on signing Morgan Gibbs-White after a protracted saga, Tottenham are desperate to make amends as they target an ambitious move for Real Madrid forward Rodrygo.

Spurs bid £87.1million as they request to speak with Rodrygo
Tottenham have looked at signing Rodrygo this summer after it became clear that Xabi Alonso did not see him as an integral part of his plans.
The Brazil international is still just 24 years old, and Real Madrid would only entertain a reasonable offer for their forward, whose contract expires in 2028.
His price tag has not put Spurs off, who, according to a report in Fichajes (4 August), have bid £87.1million for the two-time UEFA Champions League winner.
Player | Date | Price |
Dominic Solanke | August 2024 | £60m |
Mohammed Kudus | July 2025 | £55m |
Tanguy Ndombele | July 2019 | £53.8m |
Richarlison | July 2022 | £50m |
Brennan Johnson | September 2023 | £47.5m |
This would comfortably break Tottenham’s transfer record and would make Rodrygo the first player since Sergio Reguilon to be sold by Madrid to the North Londoners.
The Lilywhites have asked the Whites for permission to negotiate directly with the former Santos winger, but the player is not sold on the move, believing that it would be a backward step in his career.
He does not wish to leave the Spanish capital, and it will now need Daniel Levy and Frank to figure out a way to sell the project to Rodrygo.

Rodgyro move is somewhat of a gamble
Rodrygo’s name has been synonymous with Real Madrid for over six years, and his arrival in N17 would be met with plenty of excitement.
The talented attacker has produced magical moments on the biggest stage for the Champions League record holders, and would bring an element of stardust to a team that has just said farewell to the legendary Son Heung-min.
However, his return of six goals and as many assists in 30 La Liga appearances last season does raise certain questions, and his off-ball work rate is not something that stands out.
His physicality is also unremarkable, and for Frank’s system, Rodrygo would be expected to work hard going both ways on the pitch.
The diminutive forward would certainly add flair and plenty of skill to Tottenham’s forward options, but commanding such a significant fee, he may not be the safest option available on the market this summer.
