Tottenham squad to suffer cull with Ange Postecoglou ready to replace four stars
Tottenham Hotspur could be set for a significant reshuffle of the squad this summer, as Ange Postecoglou looks ahead to next season for a Champions League return.
As reported in The Times [9 May], Spurs are set to put a number of first-team regulars up for sale including Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Giovani Lo Celso.
After spending in excess of £200m last summer, Spurs’ dismal recent run has seen them all but concede fourth place to Aston Villa in Postecoglou’s first season in charge.
The Australian will be given the funds to bring in a new centre-back, midfielder and striker as he looks to reshape the spine of the team, whilst squad players Bryan Gil and Djed Spence are also tipped to depart.
Tottenham‘s extinguished Champions League hopes
Two weeks ago, the majority of experts tipped Spurs to finish the job.
The team have run out of steam at a crucial point in the season, despite injuries and the 4-0 win at Aston Villa in March which put Postecoglou’s side firmly in the driving seat for a top-four finish.
They’ve now won just two in eight, and a single win for Villa against either Liverpool or Crystal Palace will seal their passage to the Champions League next season.
Even if Unai Emery’s men don’t manage a win in their final two with Tottenham still to face the Premier League’s bottom two clubs, they have a meeting with title-hunting Manchester City sandwiched in the middle.

Many supporters have in fact gone on record as wanting their own side to lose to City in North London, in order to deny bitter rivals Arsenal the title. This is what Tottenham’s season has become.
Postecoglou’s penchant for high-risk, high-reward football is admirable to the neutral but comes with a side helping of naivety – and you need the players to do it. Another £200m please, Daniel.
