Tottenham show ‘firm interest’ in Morten Hjulmand amid huge £52m transfer development
Tottenham could be about to take a step closer to signing Morten Hjulmand in the January transfer window.
The Sporting CP captain is into his third full season in the Portuguese capital, but he was almost prized away from them during the summer window.
Tottenham showed an interest in Hjulmand, who also had admirers from Serie A at the time, in the form of Juventus and Inter Milan.
No moves were made for the Denmark international at that stage, but that could be about to change imminently if Thomas Frank gets his way.

Tottenham plotting £52m Morten Hjulmund bid
Hjulmand was a target for Tottenham in the summer, as they tried to address concerns emerging within their midfield ranks.
Joao Palhinha ultimately joined in the middle of the park for the Lilywhites, but with Rodrigo Bentancur’s contract due to expire at the end of the season, there could still be issues on the horizon for them.
The N17 outfit are now showing a “firm interest” in Hjulmand once again ahead of the January window, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.
- Hjulmand is under contract with Sporting until the summer of 2028
- He is understood to have a release clause of around £69million
- Hjulmand was named as the Portuguese league’s best midfielder in 2023/24
It is understood that Frank views his countryman as the perfect option to help add more balance to his midfield group.
The Lilywhites are thought to be preparing an offer in the region of £52million for the 26-year-old, who is being viewed as a long-term investment in North London.

Morten Hjulmund to fill hole left by Rodrigo Bentancur
Bentancur’s contract situation is concerning for Tottenham, given that Atletico Madrid continue to lurk in the background and could offer a pre-contract agreement in January.
The Uruguay international feels less and less likely to remain in N17 with every passing day, but Spurs may have already found their ideal alternative in Hjulmund.
The former Lecce man can operate either in a holding midfield or box-to-box role, and that versatility could be invaluable to Frank in the middle of the park.
He doesn’t quite have the same level of top-level experience as Bentancur did when he first joined, but the fact that he has got a couple of years on the former Juventus star would undoubtedly be a positive for Tottenham.
The Bentancur situation is a problem that needs addressing, and Hjulmand may provide the ideal solution.
