Tottenham scouts ‘to watch Sunderland star up close’ in clash v Leeds United

Tottenham have already set their sights on the summer transfer window and are casting their net wide for new additions.

Spurs have had a season to forget thus far and have been found wanting across several key positions due to an ongoing injury crisis, with Ange Postecoglou slowly welcoming players back of late.

The returning Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison both proved crucial to Postecoglou in his side’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday, with the latter scoring the winner in North London.

However, Spurs remain keen on strengthening in attacking midfield come the summer window, and could look to England’s second-tier to find the perfect alternative to Maddison in the number 10 role.

Jobe Bellingham on Tottenham transfer radar with scouts sent

As his promotion-chasing Sunderland side prepare to take on second-placed Leeds United in Monday’s top-of-the-table Championship clash, Jobe Bellingham is a player who’ll have plenty of eyes on him.

The Express report [17 February] that Spurs scouts will “have their eyes glued” to the match at Elland Road, with a view to monitoring how Bellingham fares against the EFL’s most in-form team.

Spurs scouts have been in attendance to watch most of Bellingham’s games for the Black Cats this season, and are likely to do so once again with the 19-year-old and his side firmly in the promotion race.

Tottenham can take Jobe Bellingham to new heights

Although Spurs’ seemingly never-ending transfer policy of signing young and promising players over proven Premier League talent has been criticised, Bellingham looks set to rise to the very top.

His brother Jude has certainly proven to be a success at making rapid rises up the divisions and leagues of various countries, going from Birmingham City to a Champions League triumph with Real Madrid in four years, via Borussia Dortmund.

Tottenham have been linked with Sunderland gem Jobe Bellingham

Jobe Bellingham’s first move away from St. Andrews saw him head to Sunderland, rather than Borussia Dortmund as Jude did, but his development there cannot be questioned given their league position.

With Sunderland fourth in a four-horse race for automatic promotion from the Championship, they’re currently less likely than Leeds, Sheffield United or Burnley to be a Premier League side next term.

Should the Black Cats fail to go up, they may be willing to let Bellingham leave so as not to hinder his own rise, and with Spurs one of several interested sides, they’re surely one of the most attractive options.
