Tottenham ready to seal transfer for next Lucas Bergvall as contract details emerge

Tottenham may have endured a torrid season, but they do possess an array of talent primed for Champions League football.

One of the success stories of Tottenham’s campaign was the emergence of Lucas Bergvall, who is set for a promising future in North London.

If the Lilywhites are to make significant strides this summer, then they need to be adding players with potential, as well as immediate stars.

Indeed, it appears that Spurs are chasing a star of the future who could already be likened to the thriving Bergvall.

Tottenham chasing European talent likened to Bergvall

Bergvall was an understated arrival from Djurgarden last summer, going under the Lilywhites’ radar at £8.5million.

While the 19-year-old was used as a substitute early in the Premier League season, he was utilised regularly in the latter part of the campaign.

Football fans raved about Bergvall’s quality as a feisty, tenacious midfielder, adding much-needed steel to the hub of Tottenham’s midfield.

The teenager made a remarkable 45 appearances during the 2024/25 campaign and will be one to watch next season.

Now, Tottenham are eyeing a move for a player of Bergvall’s ilk in FC Copenhagen star Victor Froholdt, according to Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg (5 June).

The Lilywhites will face competition for his services, though, as Eintracht Frankfurt are also chasing him.

Bayer Leverkusen are also interested in the central-midfielder, with several top European clubs monitoring him closely, with his contract running until 2028.

Froholdt looks set to become the next Scandinavian star to emerge.

Spurs should pursue Froholdt deal amid competition

While Froholdt would not be the marquee signing many Tottenham supporters want, he would be a shrewd acquisition.

Given the money paid for Bergvall, singing someone like Froholdt would likely cost a similar sum, which would be solid business.

Not many would have heard of Bergvall, and he has developed into one of the stars of the future in North London.

Froholdt, a central-midfielder, boasts some impressive statistics with 1.9 tackles per game and 88 per cent accurate passes, per Sofascore.

While signing players for the present is important, Spurs must have one eye on the future too.
