Tottenham ready to hijack Arsenal for deadline day transfer as loan-to-buy deal on cards
Tottenham are working to beat North London rivals Arsenal to a deadline-day deal.
Thomas Frank’s side are 24 points behind the Gunners in the Premier League, but are still fighting with them in the transfer market.
Spurs have had a less-than-successful window so far, only completing the signings of Conor Gallagher and Souza despite their struggles in the first half of the season.
The Lilywhites could now be closing in on their third incoming though, in what would be an extremely late move.
Tottenham rival Arsenal for James Wilson
Tottenham are now unlikely to sign Andy Robertson, despite verbally agreeing a deal for the left-back, as Liverpool are unable to recall Kostas Tsimikas from his loan at Roma.
It has been another window of near misses for the North London outfit, but they are hoping to at least finalise one more move.
According to Sky Sports’ Michael Bridge, Tottenham are interested in Hearts striker James Wilson, and are working to get a deal done before the end of the transfer window.
The 18-year-old would come in on an initial loan deal with an option to buy, and join up with Spurs’ Under-21’s team.
Arsenal are also holding talks with Hearts over the signing of Wilson, so Frank’s side will have to move quickly to beat both the Gunners and the transfer deadline.
Who else could Tottenham sign before the deadline?
Frank is desperate to see some improvement to his attacking ranks before the transfer window closes, given Spurs’ recent struggles in forward areas.
The North London side did show some signs of life during their 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Sunday, Dominic Solanke and Xavi Simons particularly impressing during their second-half comeback.
Tottenham have been tentatively linked with Jhon Duran, as well as Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche, but it remains to be seen whether anything concrete will happen ahead of the 7pm deadline.
If they want to make any real progress up the Premier League table in the last 14 games of the season though, then the Lilywhites surely have to make some additions.
