Tottenham ready new deal for Romero in shock twist after Frank intervention
Tottenham could be about to offer Cristian Romero another new contract following an intervention from Thomas Frank.
The centre back has enjoyed a lengthy stint in North London, but it had seemed increasingly likely that he would be playing his football elsewhere next season.
Atletico Madrid had emerged as the most likely candidate to sign Romero, with long-serving boss Diego Simeone keen to bring his fellow countryman to the Spanish capital.
Spurs have been desperate to keep hold of the former Atalanta man, and it now looks as though his future may have just taken a surprising twist.

Romero to get new Spurs contract after Frank reaffirms his commitment
Frank has reaffirmed Romero’s commitment to Tottenham over the last few days, and it now seems as though the Argentine could be set to stay in N17.
The saga surrounding his future has been one of the main stories of the Lilywhites’ summer so far, but it appears likely to come to a head soon, and it’s set to reach a favourable conclusion from Spurs’ perspective.
Tottenham have already seen one offer rejected by Romero, but they are now understood to be preparing another proposal for a new contract, according to the print edition of Mundo Deportivo (20 July, pg. 17).
The Spanish newspaper believes that Romero’s previous desire has been to move to Atletico, but he doesn’t want to “go to war” with Spurs.
Frank has once again reiterated the defender’s importance in North London, and it looks as though his intervention could prove to be a decisive factor in settling the player’s future.

Frank will be desperate to keep Romero
Romero has received criticism at times during his five seasons with Spurs, but on his day, he remains a top-quality defender at Premier League level.
Frank will be keen to overhaul the squad ahead of the upcoming campaign, but he also needs to ensure that there is some degree of continuity from the previous regime, in order to help bed in the new arrivals.

Romero could be crucial in that regard, and the Dane will surely back himself to be the man to help cut the costly mistakes out of the centre back’s game.
If the 27-year-old can rediscover an element of consistency next term, then he could become a key figure at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium once again.
He is a superb box defender and arguably one of the best in the division on his day. The fact that Frank has seemingly managed to turn his attention back towards Tottenham is certainly an early tick against the new boss’ name.
