Tottenham prepare Robin Roefs transfer as Guglielmo Vicario nears exit

Robin Roefs is one of three goalkeepers being looked at by Tottenham, with Juventus chasing Guglielmo Vicario.

Roefs has been one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League this season for Sunderland, and according to TEAMtalk, the Dutchman is on Tottenham’s list of targets.

That is because Vicario is being eyed by Juventus ahead of a potential return to Serie A in the summer transfer window, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport.

Spurs could sanction the exit of Vicario for a fee in the region of £26million, having shown plenty of flaws in his game over the last few months.

Though that is highly unlikely to be enough to sign Roefs, given the form he has showcased this season.

How much would Tottenham need to pay for Robin Roefs?

Not only has Roefs just turned 23, but he has also established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League despite having only joined Sunderland in the summer.

The Dutchman has saved 71.1 per cent of the shots he has faced this season, which is the third-best record in the top flight this season, behind Gianluigi Donnarumma of Man City and David Raya of Arsenal.

Sunderland paid a fee in the region of £11.5m to sign him from Nijmegen in the summer, but reports earlier this week suggest that any interested parties may have to pay upwards of five times that to secure his signature.

Robin Roefs stats

A fee in the region of £50m would see him become the third-most expensive goalkeeper in football history, behind Alisson and Kepa.

Who else could replace Guglielmo Vicario at Tottenham?

The same report that mentions the interest in Roefs also states that the Lilywhites are also considering moves for James Trafford and Bart Verburggen.

Verburggen has been a regular starter for Brighton, whereas Trafford’s return to Man City has not had the same outcome as he would have liked last summer.

The Englishman has barely featured for his boyhood club, making it seem like the most reasonable option for Tottenham in the summer.

However, when Trafford has played, he has looked more than competent, with a 73.3 per cent save percentage from the three Premier League games he has played.

He would be a perfect match for Tottenham, and would also cost signficantly less than Roefs in all likelihood, given the lack of importance he holds at Man City.
