Tottenham player who Ange Postecoglou called ‘fantastic’ seals deadline day exit for £8m
Tottenham may have pulled off a splendid last-minute exit as deadline day continues to shock.
Thomas Frank has been blessed with arrivals since he became head coach at the Lilywhites.
Xavi Simons is the latest to be announced at Tottenham. Meanwhile, Kolo Muani looks to be the next Daniel Levy signing.
Mohammed Kudus has become a revelation at Tottenham since signing at West Ham, while Joao Palhinha’s brilliance is hard to ignore.
But as focused as the North London club has been on arrivals, exits are now beginning to take centre stage.

Tottenham agree £8million deal for Bryan Gil
As reported by Tom Allnutt via X on Monday, 1 September, Tottenham have agreed a deal with Girona to sell Bryan Gil for £8.6million.
The forward was loaned to the La Liga side last season, where he scored four goals and provided three assists. But this time, he will be returning on a permanent transfer.
Gil also had an offer from Elche, but will return to Girona after a successful loan spell.
While the winger has had a difficult career with the Lilywhites, Ange Postecoglou always saw potential in him.
In a press conference ahead of Spurs’ clash against Everton in February 2024, Postecoglou said: “I still very much regard them as our players, and Bryan is a fantastic young player.
“He works so hard to improve every day, and this first half of the year, he’s had a couple of injuries. People shouldn’t underestimate that, especially in a set-up like ours, where most of the guys who had a strong pre-season are the ones that hit the ground running.”
But the left winger has never been able to show off his best form at the North London club – nor was he given much opportunity to.
Daniel Levy has pulled off the impossible with Bryan Gil
There is no doubt that Tottenham supporters will be disappointed with the small fee collected for Gil.
- Gil joined Tottenham in 2021 for an initial £21.6m fee
- Since the left winger has made 43 appearances for Tottenham, providing two assists
- With his transfer to Girona, Spurs will lost £13m
Not making a profit is hardly a financial masterstroke from Levy, but considering the circumstances, perhaps it is.
It was looking unlikely that Gil would leave North London. With his contract expiring in 2026, it was looking more and more likely that he could leave on a free transfer. Levy has not only recouped a fee for the winger, but has gotten his wages off the books.
While the handling of the player and dubious loan decisions was poor business from the Lilywhites, Levy looks to have made the best out of a bad situation.
