Tottenham now have ‘glaring absence’ after what Thomas Frank said about deadline day

Tottenham had a very quiet transfer deadline day despite their struggles in the Premier League this season.

Thomas Frank’s side sits a lowly 14th in the table, but there were still no further senior additions to the Dane’s squad before the window slammed shut.

Tottenham did sign James Wilson from Hearts on an initial loan deal, which includes an option to buy at the end of the season.

Spurs beat Arsenal to the 18-year-old striker, who will now join up with the Under-21s side for the remainder of the campaign.

Tottenham fail to address problem position on deadline day

Tottenham signed Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid to kick off their business in the winter window, for a reported fee of £34million.

That was quickly followed by the addition of young left-back Souza from Santos, but the Brazilian ended up being Spurs’ last senior signing before the deadline.

According to football.london, the lack of a new left winger was the “glaring absence” of the winter transfer window for the North London side.

Frank previously admitted that Tottenham had made an ambitious move for Antoine Semenyo, before the Ghanaian eventually made the switch to Manchester City.

Speaking about the latter stages of the transfer window last week, Frank said that Spurs would be active on deadline day and may look into the loan market for a Semenyo alternative.

However, the North London side ultimately failed to bring in a winger, as they didn’t feel that there were any options available that improved the squad.

Thomas Frank destined for the sack at Tottenham

Frank was already under huge sack pressure at Tottenham going into January, and the club’s business over the last month has done little to help the Dane.

After what feels like a constant string of injury problems, combined with the sale of Brennan Johnson, Spurs have ended the window considerably weaker than they started it.

Tottenham’s second-half performance in their 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Sunday showed that the current squad still can fight with the top teams.

However, the Lilywhites come unstuck against lower table sides far too often, and Frank will surely be dismissed if the situation gets any worse before the end of the season.
