Tottenham in hunt to sign £20m Hayden Hackney after bid made to Middlesbrough

Daniel Levy has plenty of work to do now after parting ways with Ange Postecoglou.

The Spurs chief has no time to waste in finding his replacement in north London, with Thomas Frank currently leading the race.

Levy already has an eye on the summer transfer business, though, with Hayden Hackney lined up as a target to help the new boss push on.

Tottenham eyeing up move for Hackney

Although a new Tottenham boss will want to put his own stamp on the side, the Lilywhites are already looking at potential targets.

Spurs require some fresh blood ahead of the new campaign and a new midfielder is on the shopping list.

According to the print edition of the Sun on Sunday (8 June, page 61), Tottenham have Hackney on their radar as a possible answer this summer.

The report states that the 22-year-old is likely to leave Middlesbrough this summer, with his hometown club having to settle for another season in the Championship.

Spurs scouts have already spent some time watching Hackney and have seemingly been left impressed by what they have seen.

Part of England’s Under-21s set-up, the midfielder is hoping to catch the eye of a potential suitor during the European Championships in Slovakia.

Should the north London outfit be ready to make a move, though, they will have a fair bit of competition to face.

Porto already had a £9million bid for Hackney rejected in January, while Stuttgart and Crystal Palace have also been credited with interest.

Frank would work well with Hackney

Tottenham do find themselves in a position of limbo at present, as a Postecoglou replacement is needed before any work can truly get underway.

However, it is positive that those still at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium are putting preparations in place.

With the increased demands of juggling Premier League and Champions League football next season, the Lilywhites do require depth in their squad and the 22-year-old is certainly someone on his way up.

Hackney had an impressive season in the Championship.

Hackney has already shown the ability to hold his own in the top flight with impressive cup displays against Premier League opposition in the 2023-24 campaign.

Should Frank be the new manager in North London, the pair would surely work well together, with the Danish boss having a strong reputation for his development of players.
