Tottenham identify left-field option for brand new defender transfer
Tottenham Hotspur are one of several clubs interested in signing Sutton United defender Jack Taylor, according to TBR Football.
The online outlet reported on 26 January that Spurs have watched the National League centre-back in action across recent weeks, with the 19-year-old attracting interest spanning the entire EFL.
Like Spurs, West Ham have also sent scouts to watch Taylor, while Crystal Palace, Millwall, Charlton and Peterborough are also keen on the player, whose stock has risen after his displays for Sutton this season.
Levy to face backlash if Tottenham sanction Jack Taylor transfer
Taylor may well prove to be the next big thing when it comes to non-league players making the jump up the divisions, and at just 19, could have the world at his feet in a similar scenario to Jamie Vardy’s rise.
However, a teenage defender plying his trade four levels below the Premier League is not what Spurs need for the here and now, with defensive reinforcements paramount before the transfer window shuts.

Vardy and his Leicester City side exposed all the flaws of a makeshift Lilywhites backline in their 2-1 win on 26 January, and it’s clear that when it comes to a new centre-back, Spurs need experience.
Having missed out on Milan Skriniar and Levy looking unlikely to pay the asking price for Bournemouth’s Illya Zabarnyi, bringing in Taylor as the only new centre-back cover would see his popularity sink further.
Levy simply has to give Ange Postecoglou defensive assistance for the here and now if Spurs are to do anything in the final days of the window, but for the time being, Taylor certainly wouldn’t be the answer.
In other Tottenham news, Tim Sherwood’s comments on Spurs’ prospects this season left Paul Merson in disbelief on Sky Sports.
