Tottenham given Harvey Elliott approval after James Maddison blow

Tottenham have been linked with some outstanding players ahead of the Premier League season.

Mohammed Kudus is the highest-profile arrival at Spurs this summer after completing a £55million move from West Ham.

However, Randal Kolo Muani and Rodrygo have both been linked with a move to the North London club.

Harvey Elliott has also been tipped to move to Tottenham, and he has been given further approval after James Maddison’s injury.

Elliott given Tottenham nod amid Maddison injury

Maddison was stretchered off against Newcastle United as he continues his misfortune with injuries.

The Englishman missed a substantial chunk of the last campaign through injury, and they have stained his career.

Ironically, the Lilywhites have been chasing reinforcement in attacking midfield and highlighted Morgan Gibbs-White as a potential target.

However, that transfer proved impossible to complete after Nottingham Forest took a defiant stance on the 25-year-old.

With that in mind, Elliott has emerged as a potential target for Tottenham amid an uncertain future at Liverpool.

The 22-year-old has been unable to nail down a starting berth, but won the Player of the Tournament award at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

Alan Pardew was asked whether Elliott would be a good signing for Spurs on talkSPORT (5 August, 8:08am).

He said: “With Maddison, fingers crossed it’s not a very serious injury, but he’s injured in the short-term and I think [Elliott] would be absolutely ideal to take that role.”

Would Elliott be a good signing for Thomas Frank?

While the doubters will reference his lack of impact at Liverpool, that would be an easy remark to make.

However, Elliott is still only 22 and could still have a significant role to play in English football.

Jurgen Klopp was clearly an admirer of the attacking midfielder and handed him more opportunities at Anfield.

Under Arne Slot, it has not been so easy for the former Fulham man, although his summer performances have garnered attention.

Spurs need quality in attacking midfield and may be forced to act faster, given the latest on Maddison.

Elliott grew up in London and will surely want regular first-team football, which should be more possible in North London.

If they can agree on a good price, then a deal for the Liverpool youngster feels like positive business.
