Tottenham ‘given Benjamin Sesko answer’ as £66m transfer update shared

Tottenham Hotspur continue to be linked with a move for Benjamin Sesko and have seemingly been given some clarity regarding the RB Leipzig forward.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham side haven’t struggled much in the goalscoring department this season; their 53 Premier League goals being the joint-second highest of any side despite sitting 13th in the table.

However, injuries to Spurs’ only out-and-out centre-forward options – Dominic Solanke and (to an extent) Richarlison – have left Postecoglou short of numbers in attack, affecting his side’s style of play.

An inability to control games from front to back, not helped by the frequent lack of a focal point up front, has severely affected the Lilywhites throughout this season; hence their alarmingly low league position.

Tottenham learn Sesko price tag as new clause triggered

Despite paying a club-record fee of £65million to sign Solanke from Bournemouth just last summer, Spurs are expected to be in the market for a striker once again, and Benjamin Sesko certainly fits the bill.

However, Sky Sport Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg posted on X (3 March) to report that Sesko has a “formally fixed release clause” in his four-year RB Leipzig contract, which activates this summer.

The clause increases regularly based upon Sesko’s output and currently stands at £58m, but that value is expected to reach £66m by the end of the season with Arsenal and Manchester United also interested.

Benjamin Sesko transfer surely a pipe dream for Tottenham

Though they’re on track to finish firmly in the Premier League’s bottom half for the first time since 2007/08, Tottenham will still have plenty of financial muscle to flex in the summer transfer window.

While Champions League-level players will still be attracted by the prospect of playing in England at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, missing out on Europe could hamper Spurs’ ability to sign the very best.

Sesko certainly falls into that category given his exploits with the two RB clubs at just 21 years old, and there’s a good chance the likes of Arsenal, in need of a striker themselves, could win out over Tottenham.

Spurs will still look to rub shoulders with Europe’s leading sides this summer, and with a Europa League title win being their only path back onto the continent, signing Sesko could prove a stretch too far.
