Tottenham: Fabrizio Romano shares what he’s been told about Dani Olmo transfer
Tottenham Hotspur are one of the front-runners to sign RB Leipzig playmaker Dani Olmo this summer but any deal is still a long way off, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Tottenham are locked in a two-way tussle with Aston Villa for the fourth Champions League place and if Ange Postecoglou’s side are successful, Romano believes they’ll be in a much healthier position to secure the Spaniard’s signature.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Romano said that the club are yet to engage in formal negotiations about bringing the 25-year-old, who has a release clause with the Bundesliga club, to north London.
“There’s a chance, but at the moment, I’m told that he’s still in initial meetings with his agents around Europe”, Romano told GiveMeSport.
“He’s also not in advanced negotiations or talks because he has a release clause in his contract worth around £51m, so the price is already there.
“We know that Leipzig don’t like to negotiate usually. You have to pay the clause or nothing, so I think (Tottenham) are already all well-informed about the situation of Olmo.”
Tottenham hoping to strengthen with transfer of Dani Olmo
Tottenham’s transfer business in the summer of 2023 has reaped significant rewards this season, with Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, Pedro Porro, Micky van de Ven and Brennan Johnson all making significant impacts and becoming regulars in Ange Postecoglou’s starting XI.
Maddison and Johnson, as well as ex-Juventus loanee Dejan Kulusevski have, along with captain Heung-Min Son, become staples of an attack-minded side as Spurs bid to return to the Champions League next season.

Adding Olmo to the mix, and completing the permanent transfer of currently on-loan RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner, would give Postecoglou one of the most well-stocked attacking arsenals in the Premier League.
Olmo would be expecting to start matches as often as possible though, and that could leave the places of Maddison, Johnson and Werner in Tottenham’s matchday XI under threat.
That’s certainly a good problem for Postecoglou to have, and should he get Tottenham back into the Champions League next season, one he’ll surely welcome against the Premier League and Europe’s best.
