Tottenham eye Bayern Munich’s Kim Min-jae but face Chelsea competition

Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae.

According to a report from CF Bayern Insider, BILD Sport reporter Christian Falk has revealed that Tottenham are keen on Min-jae, and have kept him on their transfer shortlist.

However, it’s also reported that London rivals Chelsea are also sweet on the 29-year-old, and also have him in mind ahead of the summer transfer window.

It’s stated that whilst Min-jae is happy at Bayern, the South Korean international is their third-choice centre-back behind Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah respectively.

But, the defender is said to have put in an excellent performance in Bayern’s win over Werder Bremen on Saturday, and that’s potentially helped put him in the shop window.

What has Kim Min-jae’s Bayern Munich career looked like?

Signed by Bayern in the summer of 2023 from Napoli, Min-jae has been an important player at the Allianz Arena.

A Serie A winner in his final season with Napoli, his debut campaign with the German giants saw him make 36 total appearances, with 25 of those coming in the Bundesliga in a campaign that saw his team finish third.

The following 2024-25 season would see Bayern lift the Bundesliga title for the 34th time, and Min-jae made 27 appearances for them in the league that term, starting in every single one of those games.

Now in 2025-26, the South Korean has seen his role decrease slightly, having started just 10 Bundesliga games so far this season, but he’s still been performing very well indeed when given the nod.

Seldom giving away possession and a capable duel-winner, Min-jae has perhaps been the epitome of an uber-reliable central defender that his manager knows what he’s going to get from him every time he’s included in the team.

What is Min-jae’s contract situation?

After spending just one season with Napoli in the 2022-23 campaign, Min-jae signed for Bayern in the summer of 2023 in a reported 50million euro deal.

He would pen a five-year contract with Bayern, meaning that he’s contracted at the Allianz until June 2028.

Therefore, despite the fact he has been more of a backup player for Bayern this season, Min-jae is still likely to cost a pretty penny if Tottenham wish to bring him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer.

At 29, Min-jae is still very much in his prime as a centre-back, and his numbers in Germany suggest he’d be more than capable of becoming a quality defender in the Premier League.
