Tottenham D-Day emerges in £14.5m transfer bid to sign Timo Werner, Manchester United mentioned
By Kris Boratyn
Tottenham Hotspur must decide whether they want to buy Timo Werner by 14 June with Manchester United previously expressing interest in signing the forward, according to the Sunday Mirror.
The newspaper reported on Sunday (page 64, 17 March), that Spurs have the option to sign Werner permanently for £14.5million following his initial loan in January, but they have less than three months to make that happen.
This is because the German international’s buy-out clause is only valid until the middle of June, and if the North London side fails to trigger it they will have to re-negotiate a new transfer fee and fend off rivals such as Manchester United, who were previously interested in Werner.
Has Timo Werner had a big impact at Tottenham Hotspur?
Since arriving in North London in January, Werner has made eight appearances in the Premier League, scoring two goals and providing two assists.
While his reputation of not being a prolific finisher preceded him, he’s proved a lot of critics and fans wrong.
Many Spurs faithful were unsure about the German forward at first, but despite only playing eight league games for the club, his desire and persistence quickly won the fans over.
While he still managed to miss some cracking chances, his attitude often lifted the team, leading to some important victories, including wins against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.

When Daniel Levy sits down to make a decision about Werner’s future he must not only look at his performances for the club but also his potential.
While his numbers could be better, Levy will have to remember that he’s considering a forward who across four seasons for RB Leipzig scored 78 eight goals in the Bundesliga alone.
If Werner is given time to adapt, his confidence and numbers will grow.
