Tottenham could finalise last-gasp Jhon Duran swoop after Kolo Muani transfer latest

Tottenham reportedly have their eyes on Al Nassr striker Jhon Duran as a potential Randal Kolo Muani replacement.

Kolo Muani has not been enjoying life in English football this season, having joined Tottenham on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer window.

The 27-year-old has failed to score a single goal or provide any assists in 16 Premier League appearances, with his only three Spurs strikes coming in the Champions League.

As such, the French international has been linked with an early exit from N17 this winter, with his former club Juventus understood to be very keen on bringing him back to Turin.

Tottenham touted with Jhon Duran if Kolo Muani stance softens

It’s reported that Kolo Muani would like to leave Tottenham before Monday’s 7 pm deadline, with the forward interested in returning to Juventus.

However, Thomas Frank‘s personal stance on him is complicating the matter, as the Spurs boss has made it clear he’s a fan of his and would like to keep him at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the duration of the season.

So, an impasse has been reached over the last couple of days, but on deadline day, things can and do change very quickly, and so it can’t be ruled out that Frank’s and Spurs’ stance could soften.

However, in a fresh update posted to X by TEAMtalk transfer writer Dean Jones on Monday, despite Juventus continuing to push for a Kolo Muani deal, Tottenham’s stance isn’t budging.

Jones suggests that Tottenham would need to sign a replacement if they were to let Kolo Muani leave before Monday’s deadline, and one player that could be a target in that event would be Duran.

Duran is currently on loan with Turkish giants Fenerbahce from his parent Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, whom he joined after leaving Aston Villa in January of last year.

Spurs should make Kolo Muani-Duran swap if it’s possible

Not only has Kolo Muani been unable to adapt to English football, but he also appears to want out of Tottenham, and those are two good reasons to sanction an exit before the deadline.

Duran, whilst he wouldn’t be a guaranteed success or upgrade over Kolo Muani, does have a proven Premier League goalscoring pedigree from his time at Aston Villa.

The 22-year-old scored seven times in 20 top-flight appearances during the first half of the 2024-25 season, despite playing just over 600 minutes of league football that term.

He averaged a goal every 90 minutes as a result, and a number of his strikes were genuinely world-class finishes, so he would surely be a better bet in attack for Spurs rather than Kolo Muani.

Therefore, if a deal can be done to see Kolo Muani leave and Duran join before the deadline, Spurs should give that a serious amount of thought.
