Tottenham could be about to sell player that Ange Postecoglou loves
Brennan Johnson is a player that former Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou adores.
Tottenham are heading towards a vital January transfer window, with several deals set to be completed in and out for Thomas Frank.
Frank has been under major pressure, but some of that was relieved thanks to Spurs’ 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday.
However, it’s evident that his team needs to be bolstered in some key areas if they are to make a real push for a European football spot in the second half of the campaign.
Johnson could kickstart that.

Tottenham strike Crystal Palace agreement that will hurt Ange
Just hours before the January window is officially set to open, Tottenham appear to have done their first major piece of business.
Crystal Palace are said to have agreed a £35million Brennan Johnson deal, which will bring to an end his time at Tottenham, if he makes the move.
Postecoglou was the manager who brought him to North London during his first transfer window in charge of Spurs, and he made no secret about how much he thought of the Welsh winger.
“He’s another exciting young player. He’s a real threat in the front third, and he’s a bit different to what we’ve already got,” Postecoglou told Tottenham’s website upon Johnson joining.

“He’s young, ambitious. It’s no secret that’s been the model for me, not just here, but wherever I’ve gone. It’s just as much about the person you’re bringing in as the footballer.
“Looking at him, he’s going to fit in really well with this group because he’s really ambitious and hungry, and he wants to take his game to another level. The technical and the physical attributes he has, I think he should fit in really well with us.”
Postecoglou also backed Johnson for a big 2025-26 season after scoring the winning goal in the Europa League final against Manchester United, which ultimately hasn’t happened.
“I’m hoping him [scoring the winner] on such a big stage, helps him come back next year as a mentality monster of I know what it takes to win, this is what I want again and that feeds onto everyone else.”
Brennan Johnson’s Tottenham career by the numbers
Johnson enjoyed a strong debut 2023-24 season as a Tottenham player, scoring five goals and providing 10 assists in 34 appearances in all competitions.
However, he followed that up with a blockbuster campaign in 2024-25, scoring 18 goals and registering four assists in 51 total appearances, as he established himself as a key player in the side across numerous competitions.
- Johnson has made 107 appearances for Tottenham, scoring 27 goals
- He scored 11 goals in 33 Premier League games last season
- Johnson was Spurs’ top scorer in 2024-25, with James Maddison and Dominic Solanke the closest to him with nine apiece
Among Premier League players in his position last season, Johnson ranked in the top 9.9th percentile for goals per 90 (0.45) and the top 6.6th percentile for non-penalty xG (0.43), as per FotMob.
However, he’s been averaging just 0.30 goals per game in the Premier League this term, with a 0.15 non-penalty xG, which is a serious drop in both of those key metrics.
Indeed, he’s only played 605 minutes of top-flight football in 2025-25, scoring just two goals and failing to provide an assist in 16 league appearances.
It could be the right time to part ways.
