Tottenham ‘can say goodbye to Romero’ as major Fabrizio Romano update drops
Cristian Romero might be headed for the exit door at Tottenham Hotspur this summer after a new transfer reveal.
It is expected to be a summer of significant change at Spurs as Daniel Levy looks to get the club back on track after a dismal season.
That is going to lead to some major tweaks, including at the helm, as it is believed that Ange Postecoglou will not be in charge of Spurs after this season.
That includes if Tottenham go on to win the Europa League, as Levy is looking to bring in a new manager, and that will no doubt lead to big changes to the squad.

Romero might be set to depart Tottenham
It isn’t just incomings that are expected to take place during the summer transfer window though, as players could also be on their way out of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
One of those is Romero, who has been heavily linked with a move away from the Lilywhites this season following a tough season for him personally and as a team.
Cristian Romero stats | Premier League 2024/25 |
Appearances | 18 |
Starts | 18 |
Tackles won % | 82.9 |
Duels won % | 61.0 |
Pass accuracy % | 89.7 |
Goals | 1 |
Romero has only played 18 times this season for Tottenham due to a culmination of injury problems, and Spurs could be set to cash in on him.
The central defender has been linked with a move to La Liga side Atletico Madrid, with Diego Simeone believed to be a big fan of him as a player.
Fabrizio Romano reveals Tottenham are looking to make a major signing
Selling Romero might seem like a risk at the moment due to his importance to the team, letting him go would seriously weaken Spurs’ defensive options.
However, Tottenham appear to already be lining up a replacement in the form of Crystal Palace and England defender Marc Guehi.
According to Fabrizio Romano via X (26 April), Spurs are among a number of clubs that are keen on signing the 24-year-old, and he has been on their list for months.
Levy will face competition in trying to secure his signature, as Chelsea and Newcastle United are also interested in buying him this summer.
However, there is a chance that the Eagles will simply retain him for one more season and then allow Guehi to leave in 2026 on a free transfer if a deal cannot be agreed.
This can be considered a positive development from Spurs’ perspective, and means that Romero can pack his bags and fulfil his “dream” of playing in Spain as he will no longer be needed.
