Tomori transfer: Tottenham in pursuit as £25.4m bid sent to AC Milan
Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to sign England defender Fikayo Tomori from AC Milan, according to TBR Football.
The news outlet reported on Friday (17 January) that Spurs along with Aston Villa have joined the hunt to sign Tomori, who has been inconsistently used by the Rossoneri in Serie A this season and could be tempted to return to the Premier League.
Juventus are suggested to be leading the charge for his signature, however, having reportedly launched a loan-to-buy offer of an initial £4.2million loan fee, followed by a permanent transfer in the summer for £17m plus up to £4.2m in bonuses.
Spurs have been decimated by defensive injuries so far this season and Daniel Levy could have his head turned by the comparatively low fee Milan would be willing to accept.
Tottenham could sign Tomori in bargain deal
It is uncertain whether a better opportunity will arise in a mid-season transfer window than to bring in a much-needed experienced defender for a relatively low fee.
Tottenham have to go all-in for Tomori; it’s not often an England international at the age of 27, with two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract, could be available for as little as under £30million halfway through a season.
Couple that with how Ange Postecoglou has struggled with his defensive options this season and the goals Spurs have shipped throughout the campaign, and it makes the prospective deal a no-brainer.
However, as seen with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Randal Kolo Muani – both of whom have been on the Lilywhites’ radar this month – the competition is where they struggle. Often, a Champions League competitor will rival Levy and Postecoglou with superior financial power – or at least what they’re willing to spend.
The pressure continues to build on Tottenham to act fast in this transfer window.
