Tottenham decide on Richarlison sale as Atletico Madrid emerge in ‘bidding war’

Tottenham could be set to lose Richarlison in the summer, with Flamengo and Atletico Madrid both interested in snapping up the Brazilian.

That is according to Spanish outlet Fichajes, who state that Spurs, while not desperate for a sale, are aware that the upcoming summer is a “favourable” moment to sell the 28-year-old.

The N17 outfit has been without the South American forward for much of 2026, as Richarlison has been dealing with a hamstring issue.

Spurs’ number nine is their top scorer in the Premier League this season, with seven goals over 21 appearances, as well as three assists.

Flamengo and Atletico Madrid to battle for Richarlison

A return to Brazil could be on the cards for Richarlison, with Flamengo the “leading” club for his signature in the summer.

However, the arrival of Diego Simeone’s side into the equation could yet change the landscape. The Brazilian and Spanish sides are said to “star in a bidding war that could go in any direction,” a prospect Spurs will surely welcome.

Although Richarlison is currently enjoying a positive season for Tottenham, this summer presents one of the final chances for the London club to recoup some of their money.

In the summer of 2022, the Lilywhites spent £60million to bring Richarlison from Everton to North London.

The Brazilian’s contract at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is set to expire in 2027, and if the club decides to keep him heading into next season, he could end up leaving for free.

When is Richarlison’s return from injury?

The initial timeline for Richarlison’s return from a hamstring issue was set for seven weeks after he sustained the blow on 10 January against Aston Villa in the FA Cup.

That would mean he is expected to return around 28 February. Based on that timeline, it would mean he is likely to miss the upcoming North London Derby, a fixture in which he scored earlier in the season.

However, before his sacking, Thomas Frank did provide some hope a return could come earlier, saying, “That could be a dream scenario, and it just could happen [a return in the north London derby].”

Now, Richarlison has been spotted in Tottenham training ahead of the game.

With Igor Tudor now in charge, the Croatian will hopefully be able to provide a more recent update and possibly a more concrete one as well.

Spurs will need as many of their top performers available as possible to give themselves the best chance of hurting Arsenal.

This season, Richarlison certainly falls under that umbrella.
