Postecoglou ‘will want £300k-a-week star’ if he avoids Tottenham sack after shock news

Ange Postecoglou could still weigh up transfer options while his job at Tottenham hangs in the balance.

The Australian has been strongly linked with the sack in North London as chairman Daniel Levy looks set to make a decision surrounding his future.

As it stands, uncertainty surrounds the 59-year-old head coach as the summer transfer window continues to loom at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

This may not stop Postecoglou from assessing potential additions, with a high-salary star emerging as a target in N17.

Postecoglou may swoop for star signing at Tottenham

There has been no shortage of links to new head coaches for the Lilywhites, regardless of the success in the Europa League.

It is clear that Levy is unhappy with the domestic form of the Aussie as his side slumped further down the Premier League week after week.

As links to Thomas Frank continue to grow, the rumour mill carries on turning as the upcoming window comes into view.

This has seen Spurs be linked with a move for Manchester City outcast, Jack Grealish, as he looks set to miss out on their squad for the Club World Cup.

If the England international is on the move, the Daily Mirror have reported (6 June) that Postecoglou could look to bring him to North London, if he avoids the sack.

A player like the 29-year-old could fit perfectly into the ex-Celtic man’s system in N17, but any deal may be scuppered by his current £300,000-a-week salary at the Etihad.

Grealish could reignite his career at Tottenham

There is no doubt that the attacking midfielder has qualities which could make him one of the better players in the Spurs squad moving forward.

It is damming that he hasn’t been able to showcase that in recent seasons, after being reduced to mainly substitute appearances under Pep Guardiola.

As a result, a link-up with Postecoglou could get the best out of Grealish if he is able to agree a move to the capital in the summer.

It would be interesting to see what this would mean for James Maddison, who likes to operate in similar areas to his fellow countryman.
