Morten Hjulmand blows up Tottenham transfer developments after new reveal

Tottenham have taken their transfer window up a notch after a routine start to the summer.

After turning a couple of loan deals into permanent stays, Spurs finally completed the signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham.

There has also been talk of departures, with Yves Bissouma one of the more likely sales under Thomas Frank.

Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand has been linked with a move to the Lilywhites, but a tattoo has played an unlikely role in developments.

Hjumland tattoo changes Tottenham stance

Tottenham have held an interest in Hjulmand for some time, and this summer, reports linking the pair re-emerged.

Hjulmand reportedly has a release clause of £69million, with Spurs, Juventus, and Inter Milan keen on the Denmark international.

The 26-year-old was a regular fixture for Sporting CP last season, making 28 league appearances for the Portuguese side.

Bissouma has had contacts with Juventus regarding a transfer, and the Malian has received several offers, according to Corriere dello Sport (14 July).

The Italian outlet states that Tottenham thought about replacing him with Hjulmand, but the story of his Arsenal tattoo has changed the Dane’s market.

His tattoo has effectively blown up the operation with the Lilywhites, who will have to move on to other targets.

This is a story that the North London club would not have wanted, considering the jibes that would have been aimed in their direction.

Spurs to avoid PR nightmare with Hjulmand snub

It is fair to say that Tottenham suffered in the spotlight last season after a torrid Premier League campaign.

Despite winning the Europa League, it was impossible to avoid Spurs stories amid Ange Postecoglou’s sacking.

If the Lillywhites did sign Hjulmand, then one can only imagine the media storm that would come with it.

Yes, the 26-year-old is a considerable talent, but surely signing a player with your rival tattoo is a no-no.

While Frank could have done with another great Dane by his side, Spurs have made the correct decision.
