Moore to undergo Rangers medical in hours as long-term Tottenham plan emerges

Mikey Moore is closing in on his loan move to Rangers after extensive talks with Tottenham.

The teenager had a tough call to make over his Spurs future after breaking into the first team last season and scoring a memorable record-breaking goal against IF Elfsborg in the UEFA Europa League.

Tottenham’s triumph in the competition automatically qualified them for the more challenging Champions League, meaning regular minutes will be harder to come by for Moore.

The ever-growing options in the front line will also impact the England Under-19 international’s standing in the squad, leading his camp to push for a move.

Tottenham planning to keep Moore after his loan spell

Moore was left out of Tottenham’s squad for the Asia pre-season tour to secure a loan move, and is now set to join Rangers on a season-long loan.

As per GiveMeSport (29 July), the deal between Spurs and the Gers is now agreed, with a medical set to take place in the next 48 hours.

The plan is for Moore to return to North London at the end of his spell in Scotland to resume his career with the Lilywhites, who were reluctant to let the winger leave.

After discussions were held between senior staff from both clubs, an agreement was reached that the best step for Tottenham’s academy graduate was to let him head out on loan this summer.

Rangers emerged as favourites over other Championship clubs, as Russell Martin has proven to be excellent at developing youth, and will no doubt be excited to add Moore to his ranks at Ibrox.

What does Moore need to do to become a regular for Tottenham?

Moore has proven to be a very gifted player with excellent dribbling and ball-carrying skills and has shown fearlessness when taking on defenders.

However, he performed much better on the whole in the Europa League, while he struggled to replicate that form in the Premier League, where the level of physicality is generally higher.

This is the area Spurs are hopeful that Moore can develop most by playing more regular football, which Frank alluded to in the pre-match press conference (29 July) ahead of Tottenham’s friendly against Arsenal.

The Dane stated, “I think Mikey is a big talent – I’m really excited about his future here at Tottenham. I think for all players, but especially younger players, they need to get that first team, consistent football into their bodies, so if we can find the right option, we’ll do that.”
