Medical done as Tottenham centre-mid waits on work permit to leave, Ange Postecoglou was huge fan

Callum Olusesi is on the verge of leaving Tottenham on a loan-to-buy basis.

The 18-year-old midfielder has only ever made one senior appearance for Spurs, with Thomas Frank failing to play him since taking charge of the North London club in the summer.

Gianluca Di Marzio reported via his website on Friday that Olusesi is set to join Serie A club Torino on loan for the rest of the season.

It is understood that the Italians will then have the option to buy the teenager permanently in the summer.

Di Marzio adds that Olusesi has already completed his medical in Italy and that he’s now currently travelling back to London in order to get his work permit.

Since leaving the European Union in 2020, British footballers have to apply for the right to play within EU countries.

With the transfer deadline looming, it’s unlikely that this will be a long process and that Olusesi will complete his loan-to-buy move in the next couple of days.

It remains to be seen what fee Torino are willing to pay to sign him permanently.

However, The Standard reported earlier this week that European clubs had bids for Olusesi worth £6million rejected by Spurs earlier this week.

You would imagine that if Tottenham had accepted a loan-to-buy deal with Torino, the overall fees would exceed the amount that Hoffenheim and PSV reportedly offered.

What Ange Postecoglou said about Callum Olusesi

It was former Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou who handed Olusesi his one and only senior appearance for the North London club.

He earned it last January, when he came off the bench late on in a 3-2 win over Hoffenheim in the Europa League.

Postecoglou also named Olusesi in 14 of his matchday squads in the Premier League last season. However, the youngster failed to make an appearance off the bench.

Frank has only named him on the bench once in the league since, which was in the 0-0 draw with Brentford on New Year’s Day.

When he was in charge of Spurs, Postecoglou clearly thought highly of Olusesi.

Speaking last January after his debut against Hoffenheim, he said: “Yeah, we’ve had quite a few young boys training with the group.

“And obviously with the situation we’re in, it’s allowed them to understand what it takes to even train at this level and Callum’s been great.

“He’s obviously a very talented young player and he’s one of the ones we’ve got high hopes for.

“Obviously he got a taste of it (Thursday) night, which is great for him and for his family.

“Hopefully it gives him encouragement, but he’s still got a long way to go in terms of becoming part of the first team.
