‘Mbeumo tells Levy what to pay him for Tottenham to blow Man United out of water’

Tottenham could hijack Manchester United’s bid to sign Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.

It’s been reported that Man United have submitted a bid to sign the 25-year-old Cameroon international after he decided his preference this summer is to move to Old Trafford.

Spurs have also been linked with a move for Mbeumo after he scored an impressive 20 goals in 38 Premier League appearances for Brentford this season.

Man United in pole position despite £60m Brentford price tag

The Times reported on 5 June that Man United have made an offer worth an initial £43million, plus £10million in add-ons, to sign Mbeumo.

It is understood that Brentford are “under no pressure” to sell the attacker at this point and they’re demanding £60million.

However, Man United’s bid for the former Troyes star could be slowed down by the personal terms he’s demanding.

Charlotte Duncker reports that Mbeumo currently earns around £40,000 to £50,000-a-week at Brentford but he wants £250,000-a-week in order to move to Man United.

Due to the Red Devils’ crippling debt and PSR concerns, there’s every chance that Mbeumo’s salary expectations are either beyond their means or worsen those financial issues.

Tottenham, on the other hand, are in a much healthier financial position and a potential exit for Son Heung-min could free up the funds needed for Daniel Levy to afford what Mbeumo wants.

Tottenham transfers held up by Ange Postecoglou uncertainty

Spurs have had a slow start to the summer transfer window.

There’s a small window open right now due to the Club World Cup and, obviously, there’s the whole of July and August to get deals done, too.

However, Tottenham need to come out and make an emphatic announcement about Postecoglou’s future sooner rather than later.

The longer it goes on, the more his job seems to be safe. But why not just announce it publicly so everyone can move on?

Postecoglou himself doesn’t even know if Tottenham are going to sack him.

Until we know who the manager will be next season, there’s no way Spurs can make any progress on signing new players.
