Matheus Cunha ‘clause emerges’ for Tottenham summer signing
Wolves have named their release clause for Tottenham target Matheus Cunha after he signed a new deal of late, according to the Daily Mail.
Tottenham were credited with interest in the forward during the winter transfer window as Ange Postecoglou was seeking reinforcements for his side.
With Dominic Solanke currently sidelined through injury and Timo Werner offering performances well below par, it was no surprise that the boss was seeking new options at the top of the pitch.
Wolves name Matheus Cunha release clause
The Daily Mail reports (6 February) that after signing a new deal with the West Midlands club, Cunha’s release clause from his contract is set at £62million.
The clause becomes active at the end of the campaign, ready for the opening of the summer transfer window when the Tottenham boss will have a clear view at what positions he is looking to strengthen ahead of a new campaign.
There are also no restrictions on which clubs can activate the clause for it to become valid.
With the Lilywhites sitting 14th in the Premier League currently, this could be a big boost for Daniel Levy if this is a signing they wish to pursue in the summer transfer window.
Ange Postecoglou needs to have a clear Tottenham plan in summer
There has been some debate over whether Postecoglou will still be at the helm at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer and that could well depend on whether a trophy is won by Spurs during this campaign.
However, if the Australian is able to turn things around and keep his job in North London then he will have to have a clear view about what the future will hold.

Levy himself has come under plenty of criticism for his lack of financial aid to Tottenham’s efforts over a number of seasons, but if he decides to stand by his managerial appointment, there is no excuse for him not to provide him with the money to succeed going forward.
Whether Cunha will still be on the wishlist by the summer transfer window will depend on the performances of the current options between now and the end of the campaign.
The 25-year-old has scored 11 goals and contributed four assists in 23 Premier League appearances for Wolves across the campaign so far and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him snapped up by a side further up the table in the summer window.
As it stands, the boss will surely know that he needs more than just the addition of Mathys Tel to improve things on a long-term basis in North London.
However, Aston Villa, Arsenal, Manchester United and Nottingham Forest have all been credited with an interest in gaining the forward’s services too, so the Spurs chief will have to be prepared to make a move if his manager wants the player.
