Marcus Rashford transfer: Tottenham start talks after new wage reveal

Tottenham have started informal talks over a loan move for Marcus Rashford in the winter transfer window, according to The Independent.

The news outlet has reported (13 January) that Spurs are interested in a loan deal for the remainder of the Premier League season.

However, a deal may be hard to strike because the 27-year-old is earning over £300,000 a week and the Lilywhites would not be willing to pay this figure in their structure.

Therefore, an agreement would be needed for United to cover a significant amount of his salary.

With interest in Rashford from European clubs including AC Milan and Juventus, this informal push from Spurs puts them behind in negotiations as they would require the Red Devils to put up a large amount of his wages.

There is no doubt that Ange Postecoglou needs reinforcements in his Spurs team ahead of the second half of the season and Timo Werner and Brennan Johnson’s display against non-league Tamworth in the FA Cup certainly emphasised that need.

Rashford is a player who clearly needs a change of scenery to get back on track and with that in mind, he may prefer to opt for a move abroad to take himself completely away from his current club.

There is still time for the Lilywhites to take this interest further if they desire, although they may also wait to see how it plays out with the other interested sides first.
