Levy’s hand ‘could be forced’ with Romero exit amid bombshell Atletico Madrid news
Tottenham do not want to sell Cristian Romero this summer, but could be forced to part with the Argentine amid news coming out of Atletico Madrid.
The centre-back’s performance during Tottenham’s 1-0 victory against Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League final earned him the Man of the Match award at the Estadio de San Mamés.
Ange Postecoglou has expressed his reluctance to see Romero depart from the North London club, but his consistency over the past couple of seasons has put him in the sights of several European clubs, with Atlético leading the charge.
Now, Daniel Levy may not have any choice but to sell to the Madrid club, with a major update coming out of Spain.

Levy could sell Romero to Atlético for £43m
The World Cup winner pacified murmurings of an exit after posting a heartfelt message to supporters via Instagram (26 May) after Tottenham suffered their 22nd Premier League defeat to Brighton.
The 27-year-old has developed a special relationship with Spurs supporters over the years, who are hoping to see the defender lead their backline in the Champions League next season.

Until this point, Tottenham have been resolute in their decision to keep Romero this summer; however, according to Spanish outlet SPORT (27 May), Levy could be tempted to sell the Argentine to Atletico for a sum close to £43million.
It means should Atleti table that offer, which is certainly not out of the question, Levy may consider he has no other option but to sell.
Diego Simeone is said to be a long-time admirer of the defender and has personally chosen Romero to reinforce his backline.
Levy drives a tough bargain but Romero’s departure could be on the cards
The Tottenham chairman has been known to drive a tough bargain over the years, which has only been illuminated by Harry Kane’s eventual departure to Bayern Munich.
The former Spurs striker had been eyeing up a departure for years, but Levy remained stubborn in his decision to keep him until Bayern finally completed a deal for Kane worth around £82million.
However, Spanish clubs have found success with Levy over the years.
Real Madrid snapped up Luka Modric in a transfer worth around £29m in 2012, while Gareth Bale followed him a year later for a then-world-record fee of £85.3m, which broke the previous record held by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Therefore, Levy’s history with Spanish clubs could indicate a departure is feasible for Romero this summer, but given his previous track record, it seems the defender may have chosen the wrong side of Madrid.
